A well-packed gift box can make a £10 present feel like a £50 one. It isn't about spending more. It's about neat edges, a bit of cushioning and a finish that says someone took the time.
This guide walks through how to pack a gift box properly, from choosing the right size to adding filler and a note. We'll use the magnetic gift boxes and shredded paper filler we stock, and we'll be upfront about what to measure for yourself.
The short answer: Choose a box slightly larger than the gift, line it with shredded paper filler, set the gift in the middle, tuck more filler around it, add a card and close the magnetic lid. Our gift boxes start from £3.50 and our filler from £8.95. Message us on WhatsApp if you're packing for lots of guests.

How to Pack a Gift Box, Step by Step
Step 1: Measure the Gift First
Measure the longest, widest and tallest parts of what you're packing. Then compare with the box's inside size. You want the gift to fit with a little room for filler around it. We haven't tested every product in every box, so the measuring is worth doing, especially for taller items.
Step 2: Choose the Right Box
The flatter 375 × 265 × 65mm boxes suit flat or slim items. The taller ivory box (105mm) and the kraft box (100mm) leave more room for rounder or thicker gifts.
Step 3: Assemble the Box
Our boxes arrive flat-packed. The listings describe simple self-assembly, so it takes a moment to set one up. Press the sides and base so the edges sit square and the magnetic closure lines up.
Step 4: Add a Layer of Shredded Paper Filler
Fill the base with a loose layer of shredded paper. It acts as cushioning and gives the gift a neat bed to sit on. Our shredded paper filler comes in cream, rose, spruce and red, and in pack sizes from 250g to 10kg. It's made from 100% recycled materials, and the listing describes it as reusable, recyclable and biodegradable.
Step 5: Set the Gift in the Middle
Place the gift in the centre. If it's heavy or fragile, add filler on each side so it can't slide around. Leave a few strands loose at the edges for a relaxed look.
Step 6: Add a Note
A short handwritten card makes the gift personal. If you're packing for guests, add each guest's name.
Step 7: Close and Check
Close the magnetic lid, give the box a gentle shake and check nothing moves. If something rattles, add a little more filler.
Choosing Filler Colours
- Cream: a neutral, natural look that suits almost anything.
- Rose: soft and warm, good for weddings, baby showers and birthdays.
- Spruce: a deep green that suits Christmas and corporate gifts.
- Red: bold and festive, good for Christmas and celebrations.
Matching the Box to the Occasion
Weddings and Parties
Use one box colour and one filler colour for consistency. The ivory box with rose or cream filler looks elegant, and our guide to speakers as birthday gifts and party favors shows how to build a favor box.
Christmas
Red or black boxes with spruce or red filler look festive. Order early, because December is busy.
Corporate and Staff Gifts
Black or kraft boxes look professional, and the kraft box has a natural, recycled look. Consistent packing across a large order makes a strong impression. For regular business orders, you can apply for a trade account.

Packing in Bulk
If you're packing 20, 50 or 100 boxes, do one box first and use it as your template. Check the fit, the filler amount and the look, then repeat it. Order a little extra of everything in case something gets damaged. UK delivery starts from £4.95, and orders over £65 qualify for free delivery, excluding certain postcodes.
